Clenching and Grinding Down Your Teeth!
Teeth
Grinding and Clenching
Bruxism is the clenching together of both
the upper and lower teeth. Clenching can cause pressure
on the muscles, tissues, and other surrounding structures
of the jaw, and can cause jaw joint disorders, headaces,
neck pain, jaw pain, ear pain, tense muscles, and excessive
wear on the teeth. Collectively, these symptoms are referred
to as "TMJ" problems (temperomandibular joint).
Bruxism can cause damage to the temperomandibular joint
(the hinge that connects the lower jaw to the upper jaw)
if not treated. Bruxism is a common problem, it is estimated
that 30-40 million Americans are affected by it.
A large number of people who clench also tend to grind
their teeth. Grinding is when you slide your teeth over
each other in a back and forth, sideways movement. Often
the grinding is a subconscious behavior that is not realized
by the bruxer. A partner or significant other is often the
first to hear the noise of the bruxer's teeth grinding at
night. If not treated, excessive grinding can wear down
your teeth. The cause of bruxism is not completely known,
but many agree that stress and anxiety play a major role.

What Is the Treatment?
Stress reduction and anxiety management are methods used
to treat bruxism and reduce the symptoms, but a dental night
guard is the most commonly used treatment method. A night
guard is a horseshoe-shaped, retainer-like, plastic appliance
with shallow borders that can be worn on either the top
or the bottom arch. It is designed to protect the teeth
from the pressure of clenching and grinding by providing
a protective cushion between the upper and lower teeth.
A night guard can be a simple, and affordable solution for
protecting your teeth and jaws from the damaging effects
of bruxism. When properly made, it can help reduce clenching,
grinding, and TMJ problems by helping to relax the muscles
in the jaw.
Where Can I Get A Night Guard?
Typically, you would purchase your night guard from your
dentist. But purchasing it from your dentist, not only is
time consuming, but very expensive. A night guard purchased
from your dentist could cost you anywhere from $400 to $800...very
expensive. The sad fact is that many who suffer from bruxism
and TMJ just can't afford to pay the high the prices charged
by most dentists. The good news is that now, with the new
development in technology, you can eliminate the dentist...the
middle man, and go directly through a dental lab, and never
have to leave your home. By going directly through a lab,
you would pay only a fraction of the cost you would pay
your dentist. A Dental laboratory can save you hundreds
of dollars, and can fabricate for you the same custom made,
and the same high quality night guard sold by dentists nationwide.
You see, dentists don't make night guards and other dental
appliances, dental labs do. When you visit your dentist
to have a night guard fabricated, he takes the impressions
of your upper and lower teeth, and sends them to a lab for
fabrication. When he receives it back from the lab, he then
gives it back to you with a high fee attached.

How Do I Find A Dental Lab?
Well, unfortunately there are not many labs that fabricate
dental appliances for the public. Labs generally fabricate
dental appliances for dentists only, and tend not to deviate
from that practice. Currently, Precision Dental Works is
one of a very few labs that sell directly to the public.
However, because of the new developments in technology,
this trend may change in the near future, and more labs
may start catering to the public.
Why Should I Purchase A Night Guard From Precision Dental
Works?
As I stated above, Precision Dental Works is one of a very
few labs that sell dental appliances to the public, and
one of about 2
as far as I'm aware of, that sell "custom"
night guards online. There may be many online companies
that sell night guards, but they are not "custom"
made, and they are not of the same quality as the ones you
would purchase from your dentists; but rather, they are
the "boil and bite" type. These qualities of night
guard are not designed to fit your teeth, but must be molded
to fit by boiling. Also, because they are not "custom"
made, they are not as affective as the "custom"
night guards. A "custom" night guard must be made
from the impression of your own teeth, and must be fabricated
by a skilled technician.
The technician and owner of Precision Dental Works is a
highly skilled technician. He knows his craft through and
through. He has spent 20 years in military service, and
has spent the majority of those years working as a dental
lab technician, fabricating night guards, crown and bridge,
and other dental appliances for the military. His skills
and performance surpassed those of his peers, and earned
him the "Award of Excellence" from the President
of the United States. He runs a small dental lab and likes
it as such. He likes the idea of being able give that "personal
touch" to each appliance he fabricates. When you purchase
a night guard from Precision Dental Works, you will not
only save a lot of money, but you will also receive the
highest quality possible. You see Precision Dental Works
is customer centered and a quality focused dental laboratory.
The owner's objective is to provide you, the customer, with
a quality product at the most affordable price possible.
When you purchase a night guard from Precision Dental Works,
a highly experienced technician will not only fabricate
it, but also one who takes pride in what he does. He knows
that each night guard that he fabricates, will go into the
mouth of a real person suffering from pain and other terrible
affects of teeth grinding and clenching. He therefore fabricates
each night guard with care and precision as though a member
of his own family will wear it.
How Does the Process Work?
We will send you a night guard kit containing everything
you need to take the impressions of your teeth, including
a step-by-step illustrated brochure that will guide you
through the complete the process. Once you have taken your
impressions, you will simply put them in the pre-paid postage
envelope that is included in your kit, and mail it back
to our dental lab. When we received your impressions, we
will create a stone model of your teeth from your impressions,
fabricate your night guard, and ship it back to you. It
is just that simple and thousands have done it!
